GOALS AND PERFORMANCE MEASURES: Grades 7-12
The following goals are provided to offer continuous support and programming to all advanced learners in grades 7-12. These goals reflect the Earlham Community School District’s Talented and Gifted Mission Statement, school improvement code and the National and Iowa Standards for gifted education.

7-12 Long Term Goals
These goals are established for the 2011-2012 school year to continue to meet the needs of talented and gifted learners in the district.
Goal #1:
The ECSD Talented and Gifted Program will provide effective programming to meet cognitive and social needs of students.

The ECSD Talented and Gifted Program will implement additional differentiation in the general English curriculum in grades 9-10 to provide appropriate services and lessons for advanced learners.

- provide for the social and emotional needs of advanced learners in order to maintain a healthy self-concept and respect for each student
- collaborate with teachers, parents and students to meet individual learner needs
- work with teachers, administrators, parents and students to better understand the unique social, emotional and learning needs of gifted learners.
- ensure differentiation of higher level learners is an integral part of the core curriculum

Program Exit Criteria
A student may opt out of the program at any time with written consent from a parent or guardian. The parent or guardian must contact the T.A.G. Coordinator to discuss the decision and its impact on the student prior to signing consent. If the student wishes to participate in the program in the future, he/she must be re-evaluated and accepted according to the acceptance guidelines.
- In order to be accepted in this program you must first be nominated.
- New nominations will be done by the TAG coordinator, who will use test scores or other documentation to nominate
- Teachers, parents and students may also nominate individuals for the program by contacting the TAG coordinator and filling out an evaluation form and turning in to the TAG coordinator
- Students who have been identified as talented and gifted in elementary will automatically be nominated for the middle school program.
EVALUATION
- Once students are nominated, they will be evaluated by their classroom teachers using the proper form
- Students will be placed in the program based on the following criteria: test scores, achievement tests(if taken outside of school), teacher evaluation/recommendation, school academic achievement
- Above 95% on ITEDS and 97% or above on multiple MAP tests= 5 pts
- In the 90%ile or higher on ITEDS or multiple MAP tests=2pts
- If all teacher recommendations average 18 or more “almost always” rankings=10pts
- If teacher recommendation forms show students in “almost always” or “sometimes” columns, but no “seldom”=5 pts
- If you have 2 or more “seldom” categories, 1 point deducted for each 2 “seldom” rankings. Multiple seldom rankings by multiple teachers may result in waiting listing the student or accepting student on a probationary basis.
- Grades or a parent conference may be a determining factor if needed to meet the total points or determine whether or not a student is on the border of acceptance.
- General academic or extra-curricular achievement may also used as a determining factor.
- Student must receive 10 points to be accepted in the program.
ACCEPTANCE
- If students reach the 10 point requirement, a letter will be sent home to the students and the parents informing them of the program.
- Students and parents will sign a contract stating the student must obtain all C’s or better in all course areas and must maintain a B or better in all TAG coursework
- If a student falls below this criteria at any point, they may be removed from the program.
- Students may also be put on probationary status within the program.
